About the role
Writing software is only one part of building a good product. Someone also needs to check whether everything actually works.
Software Testers and QA Engineers spend their time testing applications, checking different user scenarios, finding bugs and making sure changes haven't broken something that was working previously.
The work can include testing websites, mobile applications, APIs and desktop software. Some companies rely mainly on manual testing, while others use automation tools to run repetitive tests more quickly.
QA professionals are commonly employed by software companies, product teams, IT service providers and businesses that develop their own applications.
You don't need to know every testing framework to get started. Understanding how software works, being curious about what could go wrong and documenting problems clearly are all important qualities.
Responsibilities
- Read requirements and prepare test cases for new features.
- Test applications manually and check whether features behave as expected.
- Perform regression testing after updates and bug fixes.
- Find, reproduce and document software bugs.
- Test applications across different browsers, devices and screen sizes.
- Validate APIs using tools such as Postman.
- Work with developers to investigate and verify reported issues.
