About the role
Not every IT problem requires a software developer. Sometimes a computer stops working, a network goes down, an employee cannot access a system or an entire office loses connectivity. IT Support and Network Engineers are the people who help get things working again.
The work can vary quite a bit depending on the organisation. You might spend your day troubleshooting computers, configuring routers and switches, managing user accounts, maintaining servers or looking after an office network.
These professionals are needed in almost every industry, including IT companies, schools, hospitals, banks, manufacturing units and businesses with their own IT departments.
A good candidate should understand how computers and networks work, be comfortable troubleshooting unfamiliar problems and be able to communicate technical solutions clearly. Practical knowledge often matters just as much as certifications.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for computers, laptops, printers and business applications.
- Troubleshoot Windows, Linux and other operating system issues.
- Configure and maintain routers, switches, Wi-Fi and office networks.
- Work with networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VLANs.
- Manage user accounts, permissions and access to company systems.
- Install operating systems, software updates and security tools.
- Monitor network connectivity and investigate service interruptions.
- Maintain IT equipment records and document common technical issues.
