A Full Stack Developer works on different parts of an application rather than focusing on just one layer. This could mean building a React interface in the morning, working on a Node.js API in the afternoon and fixing a database issue later in the day.
The exact balance between frontend and backend work varies from company to company. Smaller teams often expect developers to handle most of the application, while larger organisations may have more specialised responsibilities.
Full Stack Developers are commonly found in startups, software development companies, SaaS businesses and product engineering teams.
A good candidate should have a working understanding of frontend and backend development, know how databases and APIs fit together and be comfortable taking a feature from initial development through to deployment.
You don't need to know every framework available. A solid understanding of your primary technology stack and the ability to build complete, working applications matter much more.
